What do you think when you think about your body? Most of us immediately produce thoughts like ‘it’s fat’, ‘it’s saggy, wrinkly, and ugly’, or ‘it sure ain’t what it used to be’.
This is unfortunate because those awful thoughts lead to treating our bodies like crap instead of respecting them. We often don’t consider the toxins or chemicals we unintentionally put in our bodies, and we rarely give it the hydration, movement, and rest it needs.
Consider a different view
I would like you to take a moment to think about all the things your body does for you that you may not think about very often, if ever.
Your arms make it possible to hug your kids. Your eyes let you see all the glorious colors of the seasons. Your beautiful face shows others the love you have for them. That belly of yours possibly grew a human!
Your body is amazing! Shouldn’t you be treating it like it’s amazing?
Show your body you are grateful
With Thanksgiving right around the corner, this is the perfect time to show some gratitude for the body that allows you to work, play, and love.
This week I am going to focus on noticing all the wonderful things my body allows me to do, and treat it with the respect and care it deserves. I will treat my body as if I love it.
I want to invite you to do the same
Be very mindful of what you are putting in your body: food, alcohol, drugs.
Move it, don’t abuse it. If you’re not a fitness fanatic, try some gentle yoga or go for a walk. If you do exercise regularly, make sure your workouts actually make you feel better instead of beat up.
Drink water!
Try some self-care: take a bath, get a facial, paint your nails, or simply sit with a hot cup of tea and read a book.
Self-care is not selfish
In our hectic lives taking care of everyone else, we often forget to take care of ourselves. We take our bodies for granted and ignore them. And then we wonder why we are so exhausted and easily irritated.
When you take some time to focus on yourself, you will be better able – and willing – to do all the stuff for everyone else.
So go ahead! Make yourself a priority. Get that massage.
Show your body some love.
