How are you feeling? Exhausted? A bit burnt out or stuck?
In case you didn’t know…starting a business is no easy feat. Getting everything figured out and set up is exhausting. I’ve spent A LOT of hours troubleshooting, researching, and figuring things out. And I want to spend more hours perfecting things.
I get an idea, figure out how to do it, and by the time I get a handle on it, my original idea doesn’t look so good and I itch to make it better. But, I am restricting myself for the time being. You may remember I recently revamped my website. I do believe I needed to do that, but I still want to do more. I did just what I thought was necessary.
Eventually, you have to stop fixing. I wasn’t getting anywhere… I knew I couldn’t spend all my time trying to make everything perfect – cuz you know what? It’s never going to be perfect! That doesn’t mean the urge isn’t there though…
Anyway, when I got my new set of “vibrant” pastels, my whispers of “Lisa, go paint” turned into an incessant knocking. I was so excited to test them out!
I chose to listen to that internal calling and allowed myself to play with my new vibrant colors. It was so fun! I didn’t think too much about what I was creating. I didn’t worry one tiny bit about anything else…even what was not getting done. I relieved some stress. And I came up with a new product idea! (see printables!)
I also fueled my creativity and painted more than several new paintings since then. And I have two or three new ideas I want to implement too! I know creativity begets creativity, but this is ridiculous…It’s like my mind is supercharged.
So, what can play do for you?
*First, it’s just fun – which relieves stress.
*It stimulates your mind and creativity – you could discover something new.
*It energizes you – get in that “zone” and you won’t think of eating or sleeping.
*Goofing around with someone else improves relationships – your connection with others.
*I think it also improves your relationship with yourself – you’ll learn something, I promise!
So…what do you enjoy doing? What’s fun to you? May not be painting, but maybe it’s cooking, gardening, writing, hiking, or surfing…???
Try something unexpected. Experiment. Let your mind wander and get creative. Don’t judge your thoughts before, or while, you are trying it. Try to tell yourself you are just playing…it doesn’t matter what comes – or doesn’t come – from it.
The opportunity I gave myself for play led to unexpected results. All I wanted to do was to test out my new pastels, but I got so much more out of my play time.
I think we all need a little more play time in our lives. It’s amazing what can happen when you stop worrying about something for a bit…when you can let go of control of your mind and let the universe help you sort out all the details.
What haven’t you done in way too long because you’ve been too busy? Too stressed? Too worried?
Go do it!
Have a playful week!
